Make a beautiful sailor blouse or dress in just a day! In this day class you will learn how to make the perfect blouse or dress for Summer or Spring. Or use thicker, warmer fabrics and long sleeves for an Autumnal and Winter wardrobe item. The choice is yours. Classes are limited to 6 people only so we make sure we give you all the guidance you need – you won’t be left behind!
Our tutor will take you through all the steps on how to make the blouse or dress, from fitting and measuring yourself to cutting the fabric, how to attach the collar and get a more professional finish on the inside of your blouse.
At the end of the class you will walk out with a brand-new piece for your handmade wardrobe, as well as with the pattern in paper, and instructions in a PDF for you to take home.
Depending on which item you choose to make in the class you will still get 2 patterns to take home at no extra cost. So you will get the pattern for the dress and the blouse. So once you have learnt to make one item you can make the other at home. Double win!
Level: Confident beginners with previous experience in dressmaking, intermediate and advance sewists.
Duration: 7 hours with 30 mins lunch break. We have plenty of food options around us so you can pop out to grab a bite to eat or bring in your packed lunch.
Time: 10am to 5pm
Venue: Covent Garden
Sewing machines are provided in this class as well as the usual dressmaking tools, however you will have to bring your own fabric and matching thread (see measurements below) as well as 1m interfacing (or optional bias tape to finish the neckline if you don’t want to use facing). We also recommend bringing along 3 buttons to sew onto your blouse or dress (see images) but you can leave this part out if you prefer.
The dress and blouse come in sizes UK 6 to UK 18.
Below is the amount of fabric you will need for any size:
If fabric width is 115cm then you will need 2.85m
If fabric width is 150cm then you will need 2.3m
If fabric width is 115cm then you will need 3.5m
If fabric width is is 150cm then you will need 2.5m
Materials suggested: Light to medium-weight wovens: cotton, light denim, chambray, linen; delicate fabrics such as cotton lawn, broderie anglaise, crepe de chine or seersucker; and warmer fabrics like denim or baby needlecord (not heavy-weight corduroy).
We highly recommended to treat your fabric (wash, dry and press) before coming to the class to avoid it from shrinking afterwards.
