Last month I had the pleasure of meeting Georgia Vaux, one half of I CAN MAKE DOLLS’ CLOTHES authors. The book is a delightful modern take on the traditional dolls clothes books you have probably seen and read years ago. Georgia and Louisa have cleverly combined their skills in graphic design, children’s wear design and art direction and produced this mega cute hard cover book aimed at ages 7 +. You can make an en-trend skater skirt, faux-fur jacket, stylish evening wear, a fringed bag (I know!) and more. All clothes are designed to fit a standard 30cm plastic doll.

The book itself is the perfect size for little hands. Lots of text-free white space on pages with large text and  simple (and I stress simple) instructions with brilliant graphics to guide you through each project; this is a book where you will probably end up making most of the outfits in there. I don’t even have any girls or dolls in the house and I couldn’t resist making a faux-fur dolls jacket. It was also a good way to test just how simple and easy these dolls clothes are to make. The answer is pretty easy-peasy! Cutting the fabric to the pattern in the book was a doddle and I loved how quick it was to sew up and all by hand too. So no need to get the sewing machine out either – basically bonus, bonus, bonus! No sewing machine needed at all for any of their projects. You can see my jacket below. Its very easy to get stuck in and start making but my little bit of advice is to make sure you read the clever little tips at the back of the book, little tips like using nail varnish to stop fraying makes all the difference. There are also helpful directions on how to sew on poppers, buttons and even how to sew by hand. Everything seems to be covered!
