About This Class:
Silver clay is a malleable material composed of tiny silver particles suspended in a binder, allowing it to be shaped like clay and then fired to create solid silver jewellery and other objects. Can you image creating your very own silver earrings, pendants, shirt cuffs with silver - well this is the class you can bring those thoughts to reality.
In our London silver clay workshop, you'll delve into the essential aspects of working with silver clay, covering techniques such as conditioning, moulding, shaping, texturing, and designing your creations.
You'll discover the art of maintaining clay moisture, mastering cutting and hole-making for hanging, smoothing imperfections, drying, and preparing the silver clay for the transformative firing process, which holds a touch of enchantment.
After firing, you'll embark on the journey of polishing your masterpiece using polishing papers and burnishing. If desired, you'll have the option to apply Liver of Sulphur to create a patina, accentuating the intricate textures you've chosen. This chemical process oxidises the surface, darkening the silver; or you can opt not to use it and your hallmark quality silver jewellery will remain untarnished.
Following these steps, you'll learn how to attach a jump ring and either a chain or ear wires, depending on your preference for creating either a pendant or earrings.
Ultimately, you'll adorn yourself with your handcrafted, pure silver (99.9% hallmark quality) jewellery, revealing in the satisfaction of learning a new skill and crafting a remarkable piece of art.
