Cake Decorating Hen Party
Last Friday night we had loads of fun with bride-to-be Alex and some of her best friends who visited us to help celebrate her upcoming nuptials with some crafts, fizz and a bit of a gossip. Alex’s friend Claire organised the night with us and wanted a small and intimate Hen Do that absolutely everyone could enjoy.
Claire chose our Cake Decorating Workshop as Alex’s Crafty Hen Party because the hen has an interest in cake decorating. The girls learnt all the basics from how to roll flawless icing to how to make sugar paste flowers and lots of other little tips and tricks of the trade.
Led by the talented Mihaela who runs her own cake decorating business making cakes for weddings, birthdays and other occasions, the class was three hours long and taught them everything they needed to know about how to decorate their own cakes. The girls in the hen party also learnt how to work with icing and marzipan (see the lovely marbled effect blue marzipan below – swooning right now), how to colour sugar paste, the safest way to transport cakes and which cakes work best with which types of icing. All vital skills that are needed to (successfully) decorate a stunning cake.
Fuelled by fizz and cupcakes, the girls had a great time learning new skills and decorating their gorgeous crafty cakes. But the wedding was never far from Alex’s mind, as her fiancé Max made a guest appearance in the form of a little sugar paste figurine …
…. whilst Claire who is a sculptor preferred to work freehand and created some beautiful flowers to decorate the top of her cake.
If you have a sweet tooth and are feeling a little bit creative, what better way is there to spend an evening than getting crafty and learning a new skill like cake decorating with your best friends?
